Program Description
The aim of the undergraduate program of the Department of Sociology is to educate graduates who have a deep understanding of social processes, institutions and interactions and differences between societies, who can analyze different dimensions of social life on a local, national and global scale, and who can reveal social differences, inequalities and problems with their causes and consequences. In line with this goal, the sociology program aims to educate graduates who have a command of the basic concepts and theories of sociology discipline and social research methods, who are respectful to ethical values, who have a sense of social responsibility and the ability to develop solutions to problems, who can think critically, creatively and innovatively.
Sociology Graduates;
By taking formation, they can work as Philosophy Group Teachers in schools and universities affiliated to the Ministry of National Education.
They can pursue an academic career in universities by taking postgraduate education.
They can work in many public institutions such as ministries, Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), municipalities, Credit and Dormitories Institution, General Directorate of Social Assistance and Social Services and Child Protection Agency.
In the private sector, they have the opportunity to work in the fields of Research and Development, Human Resources, Public Relations and Publicity.

Our graduates can work in various positions in the private sector, public institutions and non-governmental organizations or pursue an academic career.
In the public sector, various ministries such as Family, Labor and Social Services, Health, Justice, Agriculture, National Education, Culture and Tourism, Youth and Sports and Interior; Regional Development Agencies, TUBITAK, YÖK, TRT, Turkish Statistical Institute, Turkish Statistical Institute, General Directorate of Security, National Agency, Turkish Patent Institute, and municipalities offer employment opportunities for sociology graduates. In the private sector, companies operating in the fields of media, advertising, public relations, human resources, marketing, research, consultancy and strategy development are the institutions that offer employment opportunities for sociologists. On the other hand, non-governmental organizations operating at both national and international level, as well as organizations such as the United Nations and the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Children's Fund, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, and international organizations such as the World Health Organization, the World Bank, the International Labour Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization and the International Organization for Migration offer career opportunities for sociologists.
Sociology graduates who want to pursue an academic career can continue their master's and doctoral studies in the discipline of sociology as well as in many other fields of social sciences. Sociology undergraduate education makes it possible to transition to different fields of social sciences.
History
Malatya Turgut Özal University Sociology department was opened in 2023 and there are 3 Assistant Professors in our department.
